37. Recreate Your Life with Ellen Atkins Carol Mae Whittick

Each week I ask my guest to share the best piece of advice a woman has ever given to them

My guest on this weeks HER Conversations is Ellen Atkins, Founder of The Suburban Monk

After thirty fulfilling years as a CPA in the corporate world, Ellen knew it was time for a change. She was a happy suburban mom of three kids, a great husband and adorable dog. On the outside, what more could she want? Yet in 2007, Ellen turned her life upside down, quit her great job in search of what made her happy.

She became hyper-focused on whatever brought her joy: words, quotes, a picture, or even a colour. During her transition, Ellen ordered a few Monk statues, the jolly kind with the big bellies. Surprised with the joy they gave her, she began to dress them up, duck tape quotes to them, take pictures and send them to her friends. From there, Syd was born.

Since that life-changing decision, Syd has swept the world. Syd has spread his love to six of our seven continents (Antarctica coming soon) and hangs out with Carlos Santana, Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, Mackenzie Phillips, The Dali Lama and even the Pope!

By listening to Ellen’s story you will witness an example of the magic that can happen when you choose to follow that persistent silent whisper, start before you feel you are ready and leap into the unknown void of possibility.
